Dreaming of starting your own business?

MISS011: Work, Values and Anxiety with Kylie Aloi

Kylie Aloi launched Be Present Coaching, a values based coaching and events business, with her own values of connection and knowledge in mind. Her work sees her encouraging other women to get clear on their values, so they can make decisions, set goals or make changes in their life in a way that feels right for them.

She lives her life and runs her business by the motto of ‘Be You For You’. The idea to live your life in the way that works for you has also encouraged her to share and open up about her own struggles with anxiety. By doing this she aims to break down the stereotypes that still surround mental health and support those going through an anxious experience. Kylie does this by entwining her personal experiences with the latest research on mental health, in particular anxiety. She shares these insights through writing on her blog, running her own events and being a speaker on panels or hosting workshops.

After completing her Bachelor of Business, (Human Resource Management) Degree and Certificate IV Workplace and Business Coaching, Kylie was never drawn to the idea of working in corporate Human Resources. Instead she built Be Present Coaching to focus on the areas of business that excite her the most, the people.

Be Present Coaching is driven to work alongside entrepreneurs, intrapreneurs and those individuals that are ready to keep learning and growing. These are the people that seek connection in all that they do and have the desire to use their knowledge and goals to propel them forward. This very nature also makes them susceptible to having more heightened experiences with anxiety.

In this episode of Miss Independent I talk with Kylie about:

  • Her emphasis on values based coaching. Including why values are so important in work and life and how they influence and guide the decisions we make and the joy and happiness we feel.

  • Her transition into coaching and how she loves the integration of coaching with her ‘other work’ as an employee and small business manager.

  • How her own personal experience with anxiety and having a ‘break down’ has influenced the style and less structured framework of her values based coaching business, Be Present Coaching.

  • The different way she coaches women and the networking events she leads and has designed to appeal to and support women who are drawn to living with alignment to their values.

  • Her own understanding and description of the various forms of anxiety. Including her own feelings and symptoms of anxiety, insight into how she acknowledges it, how she manages it, and how she makes it fit into her everyday work to help herself and others.

  • The positives from talking about anxiety and in recognising how a wide variety of people work and live with anxiety, along with the fact that so many successful leaders have anxiety.
